Letterkenny teenager Shane Blaney will be unveiled as a Doncaster Rovers player this week.
After a 1-1 draw with Plymouth Argyle yesterday, Doncaster manager Darren Ferguson confirmed to the press that the Blaney deal has been finalised.
Blaney to the Keepmoat Stadium from Finn Harps. Last season, Blaney started one Premier League game for Harps – the 4-1 loss to Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght – and had been earmarked as a key youngster for their First Division campaign.
Blaney had previously been looked at by Derby County and was assessed a couple of times by Doncaster, who swooped to sign the centre-back.
Blaney’s new manager is the son of legendary former Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson.
Yesterday, he echoed his father as he launched a stinging attack on the referee, who he felt denied his team a penalty in the last minute.
“The defender has just pulled Andy Butler to the floor. The linesman can see it, he’s stood looking right at it,” Ferguson said.
“It’s the clearest penalty you’ll see all season, and the goal is a clear foul, and the linesman is laughing at the end of the game about it. I think it’s disgusting.
“The referees are part-time and the standard is appalling, their fitness levels are a disgrace, I’ve had enough of it.
“What can I do? Shoot them, it would be a good idea.”
