Údarás na Gaeltachta has announced an exciting STEM pilot scheme ‘An Chruinne’ for Gaeltacht primary schools.

16 Gaeltacht primary schools will undertake a special education programme in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics as a result of the new pilot programme ‘An Chruinne’ devised by Údarás na Gaeltachta and Junior Achievement Ireland.

During the 2017/2018 academic year, Údarás na Gaeltachta intends to work with Junior Achievement Ireland to roll out ‘An Chruinne’, the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) pilot programme, in 16 national schools in the Kerry, Cork, Galway, Mayo and Donegal Gaeltacht areas.

The programme consists of five modules and will teach the higher primary classes Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and it is important that such a programme is being delivered through the medium of Irish in primary schools in the Gaeltacht.

The Government Chief Whip and the Minister of State with responsibility for Gaeilge, the Gaeltacht and the Islands Joe McHugh, TD, said: “I commend Údarás na Gaeltachta and Junior Achievement Ireland for establishing this innovative project. It is important that we encourage and provide the Gaeltacht’s younger generation with the skills to enable them to realise their vision for the Gaeltacht”.

Údarás na Gaeltachta Chief Executive, Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh also added: “It is important for Údarás na Gaeltachta to encourage the Gaeltacht’s younger generation to move towards innovation and spark an interest in these sectors through their native language.

“They are our future entrepreneurs and scientists and they will create and develop the Gaeltacht of the future. Údarás na Gaeltachta intends to build on this project and extend it, if possible, in the future”.

As Gaeilge:

Clár píolótach ETIM ‘An Chruinne’ do Bhunscoileanna Gaeltachta dhá thionscnú ag Údarás na Gaeltachta

Beidh 16 bunscoil Gaeltachta ag tabhairt faoi chlár speisialta teagaisc Eolaíochta, Teicneolaíochta, Innealtóireachta agus Matamaice de bharr clár píolótach nua ‘An Chruinne’ de chuid Údarás na Gaeltachta agus Junior Achievement Ireland.

Le linn na scoilbhliana 2017/2018 tá sé beartaithe ag Údarás na Gaeltachta oibriú as lámh a chéile le Junior Achievement Ireland chun an clár píolótach ETIM (Eolaíocht, Teicneolaíocht, Innealtóireacht, Matamatic) ‘An Chruinne’ a reáchtáil i 16 scoil náisiúnta i nGaeltachtaí Chiarraí, Chorcaí, na Gaillimhe, Mhaigh Eo agus Dhún na nGall.

Tá chúig modúil sa gclár a mhúintear in ard ranganna na bunscoile a bhaineann le hábhair na hEolaíochta, na Teicneolaíochta, na hInnealtóireachta agus na Matamatice agus tá sé tábhachtach go mbeadh clár den chineál seo á riaradh trí mheán na Gaeilge sna bunscoileanna Gaeltachta.

Ag tagairt don dtogra píolóiteach dúirt an Príomh Aoire agus an tAire Stáit don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Joe McHugh, TD, “Molaim Údarás na Gaeltachta agus Junior Achievement Ireland as ucht an togra nuálaíoch seo a thionscnamh. Tá sé tábhachtach go dtabharfadh muid an spreagadh agus na scileanna d’aos óg na Gaeltachta chun an tsamhail Gaeltachta atá acusan a fhíorú.”

Dúirt Príomhfheidhmeannach Údarás na Gaeltachta, Mícheál Ó hÉanaigh “Tá sé ríthábhachtach d’Údarás na Gaeltachta aos óg na Gaeltachta a spreagadh chun na nuálaíochta agus spéis sna hearnálacha seo a spreagadh iontu ina dteanga dúchais féin. Is iad seo na fiontraithe agus na heolaithe a bheidh againn sa todhchaí agus is iad a chruthóidh agus a fhorbróidh Gaeltacht na todhchaí. Tá súil ag Údarás na Gaeltachta tógáil ar an togra amach anseo agus é a leathnú más féidir.”
