Listen: Willie Gillespie on the ‘madness’ of Naomh Colmcille’s Championship run

Willie Gillespie has the look of a man who is still pinching himself at Naomh Colmcille’s storied run to the All-Ireland JFC semi-final.

The Naomh Colmcille captain will lead his men out at Cusack Park, Mullingar on Saturday against Knocknagree with a place at Croke Park up for grabs.

Naomh Colmcille’s season looked doomed when they drew with St Mary’s of Convoy to miss out on promotion, but a subsequent Championship quarter-final win over Moville ignited a fire that is still raging.

“To think we’re 60 minutes from Croke Park, it’s madness,” Gillespie said.

“Usually Christmas and New Year is time to take the foot off, but this year was different. We trained on New Years Day and we just kept going over Christmas.

“We just went to get ourselves ticking along. We know how big a deal this is and we want to put in a performance.”
