A cyclist has died in West Donegal following a crash this afternoon.

The accident happened on the Magheroarty to Ardsbeg Road near the village of Gortahork.

The cyclist, a male in his 40s, was killed when he was involved in a collision with a car.

The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Letterkenny University Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.

It is understood that at least one other cyclist was injured in the incident which happened just after 4pm.

They have been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital but their condition is not yet known.

The road has been closed for a forensic examination by Gardai.

Donegal County Council has advised that diversions are in place and that Heavy Goods Vehicles should use the R257 Gaoth Dobhair and N56 roads.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

This is the second fatal road accident on Donegal’s roads so far this year.
