McCole, Clarke in search of Irish titles at National U22 finals

Donegal boxers Matthew McCole and Labhaoise Clarke are on the hunt of national titles this weekend.

Dungloe’s McCole and Carndonagh’s Clarke are in National Under-22 finals tomorrow.

McCole (above, right) meets Kenneth Doyle of Monkstown in the 64kgs final.

McCole has beaten Aaron Daly and Mosa Kambule heads into tomorrow’s decider in good form, but knows that Doyle will provide a stern test of his credentials.

The Dungloe light-welter has never won an Irish title before and will aim to break new ground tomorrow.

Clarke is no stranger to the National Stadium’s big stage. The Carndonagh woman has won nine Irish titles before now.

She meets the winner of tonight’s semi-final between Mary Kate Slattery (St Michael’s) and Shauna Blaney (Navan) in tomorrow’s 57kgs final.

The IABA are using the tournaments as part of their selection process for March’s European U/22 Men’s Championships and April’s European Men’s and Women’s European Youths.
