Hundreds expected to say final farewell to tragic Noel today

Two Donegal communities will be united in grief today as family man, husband and community volunteer Noel McDermott is laid to rest.

There is still disbelief following the tragic death of the 43-year-old who was killed following a cycling accident on Friday afternoon last near Gortahork.

Originally from Hawthorn Heights in Letterkenny, Noel had made his home in Brinlack, Gaoth Dobhair with wife Aifric and the couple’s three children.

Noel emersed himself in life in West Donegal but never forgot his roots and his upbringing in the Cathedral Town of Letterkenny.

He was a familiar sight on the gate of O’Donnell Park where he was a true volunteer in every sense of the word at his beloved St Eunan’s GAA Club.

Noel was also a passionate member of the Errigal Cycling Club.

Both groups will come together today to for guards of honour at St Colmcille’s Church in Cnoc Fola for Noel’s funeral mass at 11am with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Deepest sympathy is extended to his family and wide circle of friends at this difficult time.
