Coláiste Ailigh overcame Crana College in a high-scoring Ulster Schools Junior ‘B’ final at Whitestrand this morning.

A brace of goals by Iseult Ni Mhathuna and strikes from Shannon Ni Cuinneagain, Aobha Ni Aragain and Shauna Ni Uiginn gave Keith Cowan’s girls the win.

Coláiste Ailigh raced 2-0 ahead inside the opening ten minutes.

Ni Aragain set up Ni Mhathuna for the opener in the seventh minute and she finished well past Karen O’Connor in the Crana goal.

It was 2-0 just two minutes later when Ni Cuinneagain ball forward deceived defence and ‘keeper to double the advantage.

Crana pulled on back as Maire Cooke raced onto a through ball to fire home.

O’Connor held onto a header from Ni Cuinneagain, but she was powerless to prevent Ni Mhathuna from adding to the lead on 22 minutes as she hammered home from a corner.

Ni Mhathuna turned provider as she set up Ni Uiginn for the fourth Coláiste Ailigh goal on the half-hour.

Leah McDaid reduced the arrears with a tidy finish, but it was Coláiste Ailigh who held a 4-2 advantage at the break.

McDaid was thwarted by Charlie Shevlin, the Coláiste Ailigh ‘keeper, after the hour, while O’Connor saved from Ni Aragain and sub Aobha Pasoma.

Ni Aragon wouldn’t be denied in the 71st minute as she wrapped up the scoring, although there was still time for McDaid to fire wide from a penalty.

Coláiste Ailigh: Charlie Shevlin, Clodagh Ni Shiorain, Aoife Ni Mhurchadha, Sinead Nic A’tSaoir, Shannon Ni Cuinneagain, Courtney Nic Giolla Chomhaill, Erin Ni Dochertaigh, Shauna Ni Uiginn, Aobha Ni Aragain, Iseult Ni Mhathuna, Aoibhinn Ni Chonaill. Sub: Aobha Pasoma.

Crana College: Karen O’Conner, Danielle Duffy, Ellen McDaid, Zara McGrory, Laura McColgan, Leah McDaid, Molly Clarke, Maire Cooke, Erin Lynch, Breda Grant, Rachael McCallion.
