Illies Golden Gloves tournament proves a knockout in Burnfoot

Illies Golden Gloves staged a successful tournament last night against an Ulster & Connacht Select at the Halfway House in Burnfoot.

Home boxers took victory in ten of the contests on the night.

They included two-time Irish champion Chloe McDaid. The Crana College student was in action against Ciara Craig of Dunfanaghy and ‘Little Miss Dynamite’ took the unanimous decision of the judges at ringside.

Caroline Gallagher, an Ulster Novice champion in 2017, defeated Paula Gallagher from the Sean McDermott club.

In an elite middleweight bout, Davit Tsotsoria defeated Virginia’s Martin Maughan.

Boy J2 66kgs Conor Stanley lost to Michael Corcoran (Cookstown) 1-2

Boy J1 48kgs Jesse Callaghan beat Eamon Maughan (Virginia) 2-1

Senior 60kgs Aaron Gillespie beat Jonathan Vall (Churchlands) 3-0

Senior 69kgs Charlie Duffy (Dunree) beat Jonathan McGovern (Sean McDermott) 3-0

Boy 1 31kgs Rory McDaid beat Josh Clarke (Carndonagh) 3-0

Youth 70kgs William Callaghan lost to Nathan Mongan (Virginia) 0-3

Youth 60kgs EJ Gibbons beat Mateus Alin (Cooktown) 3-0

Senior 63kgs Caroline Gallagher beat Paula Gallagher (Sean McDermott) 3-0
