In Pictures: LUH switches to hybrid and electric transport for dialysis patients

Letterkenny University Hospital last week launched a pilot initiative to switch the Renal Dialysis Transport service to more sustainable vehicles.

Throughout February, the Renal Dialysis Transport is set to be upgraded from being a service delivered by traditional taxis and hackneys, fuelled by diesel, to a sustainable transport provision which will be more cost-effective while significantly reducing the carbon footprint.

Six of the contracted Dialysis Transport taxi vehicles are due to be replaced with a mix of 6 sustainable vehicles, provided by Toyota Ireland and Nissan Ireland:

  • 2 x Electric Vehicles (Nissan)
  • 2 x Plug in Hybrids (Toyota)
  • 2 x Hybrids (Toyota)
