School driver forced to leave students at roadside because of potholed road

A Donegal road is so bad that school bus drivers are now refusing to use it.

The road at Drumatoland, Castledooey, Galdonagh in the St Johnston area is filled with potholes and motorists say it is almost impossible to drive on.

Numerous motorists say they have suffered punctures and other mishaps in recent weeks on the one kilometre stretch of road.

The situation has become so bad that the local bus driver has now refused to travel on the road after months of saying it is dangerous to drive on.

They have informed Bus Eireann, who oversees the route, of their decision.

Schoolchildren must now travel to a designated area so they can be collected to travel to school.

Donegal County Council has filled the potholes on a number of occasions.

However, locals say the entire road needs to be resurfaced as the situation deteriorates every few weeks after it is temporarily repaired.

A spokesman for the local residents said “All we are looking for is fair play and we are simply not getting it. Just look at the state of the road in this picture.

“The council comes out time after time and does a temporary job but it is just as bad a few weeks later.

“We appreciate money is tight but we pay our road taxes like everyone else and yet we are driving on third world roads.

“It is bad enough that we have to navigate these horrific roads every day but now our children are being put out and that is just not on.”
