Rose of Tralee Festival encourages young Irish bachelors to apply to be escorts

Organisers of the Rose of Tralee International Festival are seeking young Irish bachelors to accompany their Roses for this year’s competition.

They are seeking escorts who are Irish, or of Irish origin by virtue of one of their ancestors having been born in Ireland.

Applicants must be unmarried or never been married, and must be 21 years of age by 1st January 2018 and not have reached their 31st birthday on or prior to 1st September 2018.

To apply, you must be free for the Rose Escort interviews on the 20th, 21st, and 22nd of April.

Escorts will also be put through their paces at an escort bootcamp in Kerry between the 1st to the 3rd of June.

They must also accompany their Rose during the festival between the 14th and 22nd August 2018.

Rose Escort of the Year 2017 Thomas Lynch says joining up is a “no-brainer, bucket-list item.”

“The benefit of getting involved isn’t the week-long festival, it’s the year after, and from what I can see from previous Rose Escorts, it’s the years after that too,” Thomas says.

Last year, Buncrana man Daniel McLaughlin was announced as a finalist for Escort of the Year and had everyone in stitches when he described how he had been kept on his toes by the South Australia and Cavan Roses!

The closing date for applications is 20th March 2018.
