Representatives of 13 golf clubs in Donegal met with tourism officials in Letterkenny today to discuss the potential benefits the 2018 Irish Open will have for the county.
The Irish Open is being hosted by Ballyliffin Golf Club from July 5-8 next with some of the world’s top golfers set to play the famous Glashedy Links course.
General Manager at Ballyliffin Golf Club John Farren was among those who gathered this morning in the CoLab at Letterkenny Institute of Technology, with Failte Ireland and Donegal Tourism also represented.
“It’s about showing Donegal to a worldwide audience,” he said.
“It’s a huge opportunity for everyone in the county to benefit. The potential reach and market are priceless.
“We’re very confident that we will deliver a very successful event for the European Tour.
“We want to put our best foot forward. It’s a big shop window and we want our best wears on display.”
Some 100,000 visitors are expected for the Irish Open, which tourism officials say could be worth an estimated €100million to the economy.
