Donegal Youth Council has elected their new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, who will lead the newly elected group over the coming year.

Royal and Prior Raphoe student Amy McCoy was chosen as the new Mayor, with Crana College Buncrana student Lauren Cooley assisting her as Deputy Mayor.

The elections were held last Saturday at the Regional Cultural Centre, where thirteen youth councillors put themselves forward for the position.

The outgoing Mayor and Deputy Mayor Padraig McGettigan and Conor Walker, both from St Eunan’s College, wished the candidates good luck and thanked the group for their support throughout their term.

Donegal County Councillor Michael McBride addressed the Youth Concil prior to the announcement, and wished both the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor well in their new roles.

Donegal Youth Council is funded by Donegal County Council, HSE Health Promotion and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and aims to provide young people with opportunities to identify, prioritise and work on topics and projects which have been identified by the wider youth population of the county. Donegal Youth Council is co-ordinated at local level by the Donegal Youth Service.
