Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal Charlie McConalogue and local Cllr. Rena Donaghey have jointly called on Minister Richard Bruton to meet with representatives of Crana College, Buncrana Gaelscoil and Coláiste Chineál Eoghain in relation to the longstanding Three School Campus project when he visits Donegal next week.
Minister Bruton will be in the County for the opening of the Letterkenny Educate Together School and the Inishowen representatives believe this will be a real opportunity to meet directly with the main stakeholders on the status of the project.
Cllr. Donahey commented: “Deputy McConalogue and I have been raising the need for this project to be progressed in both the Dáil and with the ETB. Next week would be an ideal opportunity for the Minister to meet directly with the schools to discuss how we move this project on. It is an essential piece of educational infrastructure for the town of Buncrana.
“The current buildings are unfit for purpose and are the cause of undue stress to parents, students and teachers alike.”
Deputy McConalogue added: “This project has been on the agenda for over ten years but the Department of Education has failed to prioritise the purchase of a site.
“Numerous requests have been made to the Minister to meet with the schools on this project but he has failed to do so to date – this is despite an assurance given by his cabinet colleague Minister Joe McHugh that he would do so.
“The Minister must spearhead this process in order to secure a site for the project and it is essential that he meet with the schools involved in order to get a real sense of the impact these delays have had on them. He also needs to outline how his Department intend to address this issue.
“Cllr. Donaghey and I believe next week represents a perfect opportunity for him to do this and we have written to the Minister seeking a meeting.
“It is high time that a site for the three school campus is identified and progressed.”
