BOI customers warned of clever new scam

Bank of Ireland customers are warned to remain vigilant due to a new texting scam.

The scammers will send a text to the victim’s phone saying that their online banking account has been suspended. The victim is then prompted to click a link within the text message to “reverify” your account. It will seem legitimate as the receipt will come up as ‘365 online’.

They will then be brought to an identical replica of the Bank of Ireland website, where they will be asked for personal details.

Bank of Ireland will never send links to your phone, and are asking customers to be on their guard.

“If you suspect you have received a fraudulent email, text or call or have been asked to provide your personal or banking information (username, pin, etc.) in an unusual manner, such as by pop-up or web page, report it immediately. Do not reply to or follow any of the instructions provided, regardless of how genuine they may appear,” a statement on their website reads.

If you have received something suspicious, send the suspicious Bank of Ireland email or text to 365security@boi.com.
