Quigley’s Point health centre to reopen ahead of schedule

The Quigley’s Point health centre is due to reopen by the end of March after flood damage repairs were completed ahead of schedule.

The centre has been closed since August due to the widespread flooding which impacted many areas across the peninsula.

Fianna Fáil TD for Donegal Charlie McConalogue has welcomed this confirmation of the reopening from the HSE.

Deputy McConalogue said: “The latest correspondence from the HSE indicates that the initial timeframe for the reopening of the Quigley’s Point health centre has been brought forward from the end of April and is now expected to be open before the end of March.

“The damage caused to the health centre this summer has resulted in the cancellation of the satellite GP service, which serves local residents.  This has caused major upheaval for older people and people who are not fully mobile as they have found it incredibly difficult to access GP services.  The closure of the health centre has also increased pressure on GP services in Moville.

“People in Inishowen are still suffering the effects of last August’s flooding however, I am pleased that the HSE has taken account of the importance of this service to the local community and saw fit to expedite works following my representations.

“There are still a number of challenges facing residents in Inishowen in the wake of the floods, and although the government Ministers took a trip to the peninsula, the government response as a whole has not been good enough.  I will be continuing to work on the behalf of all those affected to ensure that this Government follows through on its commitments to people in the affected areas.”
