The Donegal Road Safety Working Group and Finn Harps Football Club have announced the winners of the Primary School Road Safety Art Competition.

Almost 900 excellent drawings were submitted by children from Donegal’s Primary Schools, which shows how popular the competition is with Primary schools in Donegal and the category winners are –

Eadaoin Finnegan, Creevy NS, Ballyshannon.
Aisling McFadden, Scoil Cholmcille NS, Murroe, Dunfanaghy.
Katelyn Nic a tSeachlainn, Scoil an Choimín, Clochan.
Rowan Zava Mason Buchanan, St. Joseph’s NS, Rathmullan.
Tommy Friel, St. Naul’s NS, Keelogs, Inver.
Shea O’Leary, St. Baithin’s NS, St. Johnston.

The overall winner will be unveiled at half time during the Finn Harps v Longford Town match in Finn Park on Friday 2nd March 2018. This is Finn Harps first game in the 2018 season.

The winning piece will feature as an advertising hoarding promoting Road Safety in Finn Park for the 2018 season. The wonderful array of drawings received not only shows the creative ability that children in our schools have, it also underlines how our committed local teachers create an environment where children can express their talents.

Road Safety Officer with Donegal County Council, Brian O’Donnell, thanked all the schools for participating in the competition.

He said, “I would like to congratulate all the winners and thank all the schools for again getting behind this very important Road Safety initiative. We had almost 900 entries and everyone was highly impressed by the quality of the drawings received. The competition reinforces the message of Road Safety, encourages school children to use their imagination and illustrate road safety issues that are important to them. It was a very difficult process to choose a winner as the standard was so high from all the entries and it is great to know that these pupils, through their drawings, are contributing to raising awareness of road safety throughout the county”.

Paddy Harte, Finn Harps Schools Programme Chairman stated, “Finn Harps Schools are delighted with the response to the Road Safety Art Competition, ran in conjunction with the Donegal Road Safety Working Group. It is fantastic that the teachers and children get so involved with this competition and it is our hope that each pupil who takes part will have an increased awareness of road safety as a result.”

“This competition is very popular with the Primary School children and we are delighted that Finn Harps continues to help promote road safety awareness in Donegal. Finn Harps are inviting all the winners to the first home game of the season against Longford Town on Friday 2nd March, where the category winners will receive their prizes and the overall winning entry will be unveiled on the night. We would like to thank Grace Ann Mc Garvey for all her work with the Finn Harps Schools programme. As in other years the winning overall entry will be on display at Finn Park for the coming season as an advertising display.”
