Dismay as all-Donegal MacLarnon semi-final scheduled for Co Derry venue

There is widespread dismay after an all-Donegal MacLarnon Cup semi-final was scheduled for Owenbeg in County Derry.

St Eunan’s College and Colaisti Inis Eoghain will meet in the MacLarnon semi-final at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon at the venue, the Derry centre of excellence just outside Dungiven.

The Donegal derby will whet the appetite of local followers, but those involved are angered at having to travel.

Indeed, they are particularly aggrieved as they claim that Hibernian Park in Burt had been made available to host the fixture.

Four years ago, St Eunan’s defeated Colaisti Inish Eoghain 1-7 to 1-5 in the MacLarnon Cup final, Daire McDaid hitting 1-1 for the winners while Darach O’Connor netted the Inis Eoghain goal.

St Eunan’s, managed by Neil Gordon, won an earlier meeting of the teams this year, while Inis Eoghain, under the watch of Aidan Mulholland, are gunning for their rivals in what should be a closely-fought affair.
