Geraldine McLaughlin returns as Donegal ladies win in Monaghan

Geraldine McLaughlin returned to the Donegal ladies side today as they recorded a fine away win over Monaghan.

Monaghan 1-4 Donegal 1-7

In a game that was a repeat of last year’s Ulster final – and a prelude to this year’s Ulster semi-final meeting – Donegal had the edge for a second win on the trot.

After last weekend’s big win over Westmeath, this was a tighter affair.

Yvonne Bonner, though, opened up in style for Donegal with a goal after just six minutes.

Bonner was almost off the mark in the first 30 seconds, but was denied by the crossbar.

Donegal led 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.

Katy Herron added to the Donegal tally but when Aisling McAnespie netted for Monaghan it was game on.

The woodwork denied Bonner again, this time from a penalty, but following McLaughlin’s introduction Donegal saw it out for the win.

Donegal: L Gallagher; T Doherty, N McLaughlin, O McCafferty; E Ward, C Hegarty, A McDonnell; K Herron (0-2), E Gallagher; K Guthrie (0-3), N Hegarty, B McLoughlin; R Friel, Y Bonner (1-2), SJ McDonald. Subs: G McLaughlin for Ward (37), C Grant for McDonald, G Houston for E Gallagher (both 49)
