First of the ‘Beast from the East’ snow hits Donegal

IT’S now snowing in parts of Donegal this evening – with around 1cm so far in the Letterkenny and surrounding areas.

There has also been a snowfall over large parts of Inishowen.

Temperatures have already dropped to -3C with a windchill factor of -7C.

The snowfall is a result of a weather system currently travelling from a north-easterly direction through south and east Inishowen and over the centre of the county.

Further snow falls are expected overnight, say forecasters.

Tonight’s weather will make for hazardous journeys tomorrow morning, especially on secondary routes.

Donegal Co Council gritting lorries are being deployed on main routes.
