Grand job! 1,000kms of road gritted in Donegal in last 24 hours

Donegal County Council gritting crews have treated over 1,000km of road network across Donegal applying approximately 300 tonnes of salt and grit in the last 24 hours and can confirm that all main roads in the county are passable.

Met Eireann has issued a yellow weather alert for Donegal and is forecasting scattered heavy snow showers today, tonight and tomorrow for Donegal.

Donegal County Council will continue to monitor weather conditions as they emerge over the coming days and is urging all road users to take extra care during this wintry weather.

Sand and grit heaps are available at various locations around the county for use by local residents and communities and further details are available on the Winter Gritting Map at https://goo.gl/ybmuPh .

The public can keep up to date on road conditions by signing up for the Council’s free alert service at https://www.mapalerter.com/donegal or by following us on @roadsdcc or @donegalcouncil on Twitter or on Facebook.

Older people or other vulnerable people living on their own may find it a very difficult to get about and do their day to day tasks during this type of weather and we would ask neighbours, family and friends to keep in touch and make sure they are safe and warm.
