The Donegal Person of the Year Gala Ball, due to take place this Saturday night in Dublin, has been postponed.

Former Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given was to be accorded with this year’s Donegal Person of the Year award at the function.

However, following a meeting this morning, the Donegal Associaton in Dublin, have postponed the big bash at the Ballsbridge Hotel.

A statement said: “The Donegal Association in Dublin have decided to postpone the Donegal Person of the Year Gala Ball on Saturday for the safety of those travelling. Rescheduled date will be announced and tickets will be valid for that date.

“Please cancel any accomodation you have booked. We will advise of the new date in due course. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.”

Lifford-born Given follows in the footsteps of the likes of Daniel O’Donnell, fellow soccer star Packie Bonner and Riverdance creator Moya Doherty by scooping the award.
