People in two regions of Donegal are waking up to no power this morning following Storm Emma and the ‘Beast from the East’.

Over 1,200 homes and business in Buncrana are without electricity, while 145 faults are reported in Gaoth Dobhair this morning.

ESB workers are carrying out repairs in both areas and have estimated that power supplies will be restored by 10.30am in Buncrana and 9.30am in Gweedore.

Across Ireland, 24,000 homes, farms and business are without power due to the bad weather. At the peak of the faults around 1.30am, there were 117,000 homes and businesses without electricity.

ESB carried out repairs through the night in the worst affected areas. The public are reminded to report emergencies and fallen wires to the network at the emergency number: 1850 372 999

“Throughout the day today, ESB Networks will be continuing to safely restore electricity to the homes and businesses without electricity and will be monitoring the weather, road and work conditions,” a statement said.

Snow and ice can cause electricity wires to hang low or even fall. DO NOT APPROACH these wires as they are still live and dangerous. Please report them on 1850372999. If you have a power outage please report it on https://t.co/YdAR3mYBDE #StaySafe pic.twitter.com/7AObChReO1
