Fundraiser says he has not heard from Good and New charity over ‘refund’

A request by a man who raised thousands for the Good and New Cancer charity in Letterkenny has still not been responded to.

Creeslough man, Jimmy Carroll had requested the return of his of his donation of €3022.74 but this has not yet been acknowledged, he confirmed this week.

On yesterday, Mr. Carroll reiterated his claim that he never got any receipt from Good and New and the company never sought his postal address to issue any other correspondence to him.

In his registered correspondence to the Good and New Directors, Mr. Carroll wrote: I am officially seeking the return of my cheque for the sum of €3022.74 made to you on May 18th 2015.

“I ask that this money is refunded within seven days. When I raised this money I was informed that the cancer bus was six weeks away from going off the road to Galway unless urgent funds were found to run it….

“I’ve been informed that you received €815,000 in 2016/17 alone and I am totally shocked that your financial status was not made public after your annual meetings each year.

“I have raised monies for many worthwhile charities and intend to carry on my work.

“I wish you to know that I feel angry, compromised and belittled with the news that you had so much money in your bank account and feel that I was used to raise money for your charity when many other worthwhile charities, short of vital resources in Creeslough and elsewhere could have used the money to the benefit of their voluntary works.

“Please return my money to ensure that my integrity is protected and that I do not feel compromised when I next seek to raise money for charity into the future.

“I also note with alarm that you said to a local media source that you sent me a letter of acknowledgement for my donation.

“Please correct the record: I never requested a letter of acknowledgement: only a receipt which I never received. I now ask that you issue a clarification to that effect.

“I also wish to state that I am not in receipt of any letter of acknowledgement and you earliest co-operation in this error along with the return of my cheque is urgently awaited.”

The public relations company representing Good and New told the Tirconaill Tribune :“The comment from the Volunteers of the Good and New Charity to your most recent questions is as follows: “As stated last week to the Tirconaill Tribune, we are making no further comment through the media on this matter”.

In response an earlier query about the return of Mr. Carroll’s donation, the Good and New response dated Feb.28 said: “The volunteers of the Good and New Charity issued Mr Carroll with an acknowledgment for his donation, see attached. We would ask that this is published as part of the article. This donation was made almost three years ago and has been used in the course of the running of the Cancer Charity Bus since May 2015.  We are not in a position to make further comment on this through the media”.

“We rejected this response on the basis that the content was ‘advertorial’ and Mr. Carroll’s claim was that he did not get a receipt for the donation and the issue of a letter of acknowledgement never arose.”
