A female pedestrian has been killed in a collision near Buncrana tonight.
The crash occurred on the R238 Buncrana-Carndonagh road.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the crash but it is understood the woman was struck by a passing vehicle and killed.
She is the fourth person to die on Donegal’s roads so far this year.
The accident happened at Umricam, close to the North Pole bar and is the second pedestrian fatality on Donegal’s roads in recent days.
The tragedy comes just days after Emmett McClelland from Shantallow in Derry died after being struck by a car following a night out with friends on Saturday night at Bridgend.
The R238 will remain closed overnight and diversions are in place. HGVs are advised to divert via Carndonagh-Quigley’s Point-Muff.
