Donegal student’s fierce design earns place in Junk Kouture final

Carndonagh student Natasha Devlin has won a Wild Card nomination for this year’s Junk Kouture young designers competition.

Now in its eighth year, Ireland’s leading fashion and art competition for secondary school’s challenges students encourages young designers to create striking couture designs and impressive works of wearable art from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin.

Bank of Ireland this week surprised five schools with Wild Card nomination for the grand finale of Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture 2018.

Natasha Devlin from Carndonagh Community School in Donegal was presented with a precious Wild Card on Monday to earn her place on the grand stage.

Wearing Erebus, which she created old handbags, springs from clothes pegs, and feathers to create texture and atmosphere.

The Northern Regional Final on March 8th saw George Houston of Scoil Mhuire Buncrana and CCS students Deirdre Brennan, Tamika Melarkey and Natasha Kerby getting through to the final on 19th April 2018.

Scoil Mhuire Buncrana student Mariusz Malon won the overall prize in 2017 with his ingenious  Engimatic costume.
