American couple tie the knot at Fanad Lighthouse

American newlyweds Lauren Cummings and Andres Villegas are officially the first couple to tie the knot at the scenic Fanad Lighthouse in northern Donegal.

The bride and groom had been searching for somewhere special to celebrate their big day – and upon finding the Donegal beauty spot online, they knew it would be the perfect place.

Lauren told RTÉ that they both love lighthouses, and thought what better day to come to Ireland than St. Patrick’s Day!

The smitten couple said their vows surrounded by family and friends on the lighthouse’s grounds, before exchanging rings at the top of the lighthouse. The celebrant for the unique ceremony was Brian Barr.

Pennsylvania native Andres said: “It’s humbling to be here, to see it in person, it’s breathtaking to see the lighthouse and the cliff and the warmth of the people.”

Blushing bride Lauren, from Texas, told RTÉ’s Eileen Magnier that it was the perfect day.

“My life is complete, I’ve got the lighthouse, I’ve got Andres, friends, and family here and I couldn’t have asked for a better day. Perfect – it’s what I imagined,” she smiled.
