Rachel McLaughlin visited Zen Hair and Beauty last week to learn how it has become a high-quality haircare haven:

2018 is an exciting year for the team at Zen Hair and Beauty in Letterkenny as they expand their haircare service hours and prepare to celebrate 10 years in business.

The luxury salon at Portsween House, Port Road Letterkenny have added an extra day to the Zen Hair schedule to open from 10-6pm each Tuesday.

Zen Hair is Donegal’s only Kevin Murphy haircare salon, and demand for the innovative range has grown so much that the team are now taking appointments from Tuesday to Saturdays each week.

Many people know Zen for their professional makeup and beauty treatments, but the popularity of Kevin Murphy products is growing fast as more and more local women discover the benefits.

Zen Hair switched to Kevin Murphy just over a year ago so they can proudly offer PPD free, ammonia free, paraben free, and cruelty free hair Colour.Me colour and products.

After three years of delivering top-class haircare, the Zen team have come to recognise how much their clients want natural products. Kevin Murphy was created as skincare for the hair, which means there is a wide range of products classed in categories for all sorts of benefits. Whether it’s hydration, curling, smoothing, anti-ageing, repair, volume, thickening, texture, detox or blonde care, there is a product for everyone.

Tara Bryson tells us why the Zen team love Kevin Murphy haircare so much: “It does what it’s supposed to do. The products cater for everything. The ingredients naturally treat the hair so there is no heavy residue left. Plus, it smells amazing.”

I had to see (and smell!) the effects of the treatment for myself, so talented Hair Stylist Anna Walker put my colour-treated hair through a deluxe hydration session.

Using the Hydrate-Me.Wash and Hydrate.Me-Rinse, Anna added the goodness of shea butter, kakadu plum and orchid to my hair, before a 2-part moisture treatment. The luxury conditioner is infused with a hot towel, which feels like a mini-spa in itself.

With fresh and moisturised locks, Anna finished my hair with a beautiful curly blow dry using Motion.Lotion to enhance the curls and Shimmer.Me Blonde to brighten my balayage with purple illuminators.

For the next few days I had serious volume and bounce in my hair, and the curls lasted gorgeously.

Among the many services at Zen Hair are Beauty Works Hair Extensions. Anna explained that Kevin Murphy being sulphate-free is a big draw for people with extensions who want to keep them in the best condition.

The team are looking forward to celebrating 10 years of Zen Beauty, which began in May 2008 in Ramelton. Now, Zen Beauty offer the latest treatments in nails, geleration nails, makeup application, HD Brows, LVL lashes, eyelash extensions and more. All skincare products and treatments are carried out using Dermalogica or Skinician.

Plus, Hair and Beauty treatments can be combined into great wedding and hen party packages. The spacious and stylish salon is the perfect scene for a glamourous get together.

Skin and Bodycare clinics are also a popular choice for clients. Donnamarie McBride of Ace Clinics visits twice a month to provide aesthetic services such as semi permanent make up, fat freezing and Dermaplaning Facial.
