Neil Gordon drew a breath and could summons only pride for his St Eunan’s College side, who came agonisingly close to capturing the MacLarnon Cup last night.

In the replay at Celtic Park, following Monday’s draw in Armagh, Holy Trinity from Cookstown prevailed after an epic struggle in extra time.

“I asked the boys to leave their best game behind them and they did that in every game,” Gordon said after the 2-8 to 0-13 defeat.

“It’s disappointing. You’re in it to win it. You couldn’t have asked for anymore.

“They’re out on their feet, but when the tears dry and the dust settles they’ll be proud of their endeavours. It was a titanic battle, a battle of two titans. They couldn’t give anything else. I’m so proud of them.”
