Excitement is building for the seventh annual Relay For Life Donegal following Monday night’s team and committee meeting in Letterkenny.

Almost 80 team members and committee members gathered at the Mount Errigal hotel to put final preparations in place for the fundraising and awareness event in June 2018.

Over 40 teams have already registered for Relay for Life Donegal 2018, which will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2018 at LYIT Letterkenny.

Relay for Life 2017 raised a grand total of €130,780.92 for The Irish Cancer Society. Money raised is spent on local research and services, including a clinical research programme at Letterkenny University Hospital.

With just one month to go to the 2018 event, volunteers will be busy hosting fundraising events and selling candles for the Candle of Hope special ceremony.

Looking back on last night’s meeting, Committee member Ena Barrett said: “There was a great buzz amongst the attendees who all showed an interest in our Education and Awareness programme in schools and with The Little Princess Trust.

“Team events and candle sales are now commencing in full swing so we have a very full calendar for the month of May.

“Donal Kavanagh spoke passionately about the role of survivors and caregivers at Relay resulting in a lot of team members realising that many of them have earned the right to proudly wear the yellow caregiver t-shirt as part of their team.

“Charlie Quinn encouraged teams to focus on the fun part of fundraising and Relay, while Seamus Devine equipped everyone with the necessary logistics for the weekend.

“Eimear Kavanagh and Sean Sheerin directed all towards the Facebook page and new website details www.donegalrelayforlife.com.

“Robert O’Connor welcomed everyone, explained what Relay was all about for the many newcomers and he introduced the entertainment in the form of The Survivors Choir.

“Everybody left the meeting feeling excited about Relay For Life Donegal 2018.”
