Jeffrey swoops swiftly to capture Shane McGinty on two-year deal

Ballymena United manager David Jeffrey believes he has captured a diamond after signing Shane McGinty on a two-year deal.

McGinty had been at relegated Ballinamallard United, but Jeffrey has swooped to get hold of the St Johnston man.

The midfielder, who has also has spells at Sligo Rovers, Finn Harps, Institute and Coleraine, had been on the radar of several clubs, but it’s to the Showgrounds he goes.

“He is an undoubted talent and has caught not only our eye, but we have had him on Paul McAreavey’s radar for some time,” Jeffrey said.

“After impressive performances this season we followed due process and informed Ballinamallard and Shane of our intentions to speak to him.

“To his absolute credit he wanted to give his full attention to Ballinamallard’s fight to stay up before he would think about next season – an honourable and appreciated position which demonstrates the loyalty of the man.

“We were also aware not to distract from Harry McConkey’s efforts over the past number of weeks and so met Shane and his father earlier this week to agree a two year deal which has been lodged with the IFA.

“To say the three of us are delighted is an understatement, he was very keen to come to the Showgrounds, we were keen to have him here and he has been first class in his dealings with us.

“We’re announcing this now with him in mind and for clarity for other clubs who were also interested and would be looking to approach him – Shane McGinty is a Sky Blue.”
