Donegal priest shares DVD in condemnation of vote on ‘the massacre of children’

Renowned Ramelton priest, Fr. Desmond Sweeney, has circulated a letter and abortion DVD to his parishioners and beyond as he calls on voters to reject any changes to the 8th Amendment.

The pro-life priest claims that despite widespread discussions and information on the upcoming referendum, there are many who do not know exactly what it is all about.

Fr. Des Sweeney

The contents of the letter, as published in this week’s Tirconaill Tribune, attack the government’s moves to change the Irish healthcare system and call on parishioners to watch a locally-produced DVD relating to abortion.

“Many of you, even yet, may be surprised to hear that it’s about whether we should join in the massacre of children in the first twelve weeks of their lives,” said Fr. Sweeney.

He writes: “As you may or may not know, well over 1,000,000 children are being slaughtered worldwide every week, and our politicians feel it’s high time we, in Ireland, got in on the act. They can’t wait; they are being regarded as backward, stick-in-the-mud, oppressive by their counterparts in Europe, America and elsewhere.
They find that acutely embarrassing. That is why, in the hope that we will go along with them, they deceptively use words like ‘progressive…moving with the times…modern…liberal…middle-ground etc, to make the changes they wish to enact sound respectable.

“You would never guess that they were talking about the most hideous, gruesome procedure imaginable, abortion -restricted abortion as they call it. That’s how they introduced it everywhere else. It didn’t take them long to make it unrestricted – abortion on demand, for any reason.

“In order to expose the disinformation, the distortions, the deceptions that are being disseminated, a DVD has been produced in Letterkenny to let you see for yourself what it’s all about, what the truth is – the truth about abortion, what it looks like.

“You will then, when you see it, be able to decide how to vote in a responsible way on Referendum Day, and to avert the disastrous consequences for Ireland that will follow, follow inexorably – by divine decree – if we should get it wrong. The DVD is being circulated, in your own townland or village, every day until Referendum Day. Make sure you see it, either in your own home or in your neighbour’s home.

“Finally, to those who, in very stressful situations, were pressured into having an abortion I would say this: remember Jesus still loves you with all his heart. He wants you to be His dear friend, to restore you to the most intimate personal relationship with Himself. He longs to fill your heart and soul to overflowing with the blessed love, joy and peace of his own Sacred Heart. Give Him a sign that this is what you want too: vote for the retention of the Eighth Amendment.

“As Christians, we believe that Jesus is always saying to us: “I am the Good Shepherd. Let not your hearts be troubled; only believe in me”. He expects us to be there for Him too, ie. our relationship with Him to be mutual. If there was ever such a time it is now. “What you do to the least of my brethren, my unborn brothers and sisters) you do unto me.” We can respond to Him by doing our part to see to it that everyone in your parish sees the eighth Amendment DVD, and encourage them all to come out and vote accordingly on May 25th.”
