Second swimming pool development idea doesn’t float

A proposal to build a second public swimming pool in Letterkenny has failed to gain support from the Municipal District.

Cllr Dessie Shiels sought to discuss the need to develop another Olympic-sized pool in the town, which would be located at the Aura Leisure Centre.

The motion was not seconded by any other councillors at today’s meeting of the Letterkenny MD, and was subsequently turned down.

Cllr Shiels had brought the motion forward in response to demand from the local triathlon and swimming clubs who use the facility for training.

It was hoped that a second swimming pool would increase availability at peak hours for public use, sports clubs and for swimming lessons by local schools.
