Dungloe get off the mark with win over Aodh Ruadh

Dungloe got their first points of Division 1 today, defeating Aodh Ruadh by two points in Rosses Park.

An evenly matched first 15 minutes seen the sides level, Dungloe’s points came from Daniel Ward – the scorer of two frees –  Barry Curran, with David Dolan, Cian Dolan and Diarmuid McInerney scoring fir the Ballyshannon outfit.

The home side stretched their lead further when Daniel Ward was on hand to finish Darren Curran’s shot to the net after Peter Boyle blocked the first shot.

Aodh Ruadh  then hit a series of points in succession – two frees from Diarmuid McInerney and a point from David McGurrin to level matters again as the game entered the final five minutes of the half.

Dungloe ensured they had  advantage at half time with 2 Danny Rodgers frees and a point from Noel McBride leaving the half time score Dungloe 1-6 Aodh Ruadh 0-6.

It was all to play for in the second half.

Aodh Ruadh got off the mark first with a points from Damian Coughlin Cleary but the home side kept their noses in front with points from Danny Rodgers, Daniel Ward, Ryan Greene and Conor Greene.

Aodh Ruadh battled hard to stay in the game as it entered the final quarter but the home side were not relenting with every players subs included giving a 110% display. Diarmuid McInerney hit three points – two of which came from frees –  but another Danny Rodgers point from the dead ball kept advantage with the Dungloe as the clock switched to injury time. McInerney had the last point in the game.
