Councillor denies graves will be dug up to make way for new road

A Donegal county councillor has said he wanted to ease the fears of people concerned about claims that graves will be dug up at Letterkenny’s Leck Cemetery to make way for a new relief road.

Reports today suggest some graves will have to be moved as part of the €45M relief road plan for the town.

But Cllr Ciaran Brogan said he simply cannot see a route which would involve disturbing graves being chosen.

He said there are a number of possible plans as part of the Part 8 Planning.

He told Donegal Daily “As elected representatives, we will have the final say on the route of this road.

“I simply cannot see councillors choosing this route if it will result in the disturbance of graves.

“I want people who have loved ones in this graveyard to know that and to put their minds at rest,” he said.
