Today (Tuesday) is set to be a scorcher of a day in Donegal and across Ireland as the mini heatwave reaches its peak.
Highs of 26 degrees Celcius are forecast for the north west – making it hotter than top holiday destinations including Madrid and Lisbon, where temperatures are a cool 20C!
Sunshine, clear blue skies and a dry day is in store, which is good news for anyone planning a beach day or day off work. The North West is best, as Met Eireann say any rain will be likely to be in Munster and Connacht.
So get your SPF on and make the most of Donegal’s beautiful beaches and landscape today. The outlook for the week is looking great also, with steady highs of 21 degrees, but with more likelihood of showers.
If you are planning an outdoor BBQ or hike through the hills today, a warning has been issued to prevent against gorse fires.
Cathaoirleach of Donegal County Council, Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle, is calling on people to mindful of not accidentally starting fires during the current dry spell.
Councillor Mc Monagle asked people to exercise extra caution and not to do something which could start a gorse fire.
He said “I am asking visitors to the county and indeed locals who are out enjoying the great weather we are getting at the minute to be very mindful when using Barbecues or even smoking as to how they dispose of them when finished.
“So I am appealing to all those enjoying out beautiful weather and countryside to be very safety conscious and careful when disposing of cigarettes or used barbecues.”
