It is hoped that a replacement campervan services unit will be installed in Carndonagh before the Bank Holiday weekend.
The services unit for Campervans and Motorhomes in the Inishowen town had to be removed after it was destroyed in 2017.
Cllr Albert Doherty has asked Donegal County Council to ensure the services would be provided by the weekend and before the summer holiday season.
Speaking at the May council meeting, Cllr Doherty said he was delighted to hear that a replacement unit is expected this week and will be installed as soon as possible.
“The Wild Atlantic Way has brought this type of visitor more and more from Europe to Ireland and as the summer approaches, we have visitors arriving in July for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. I look forward to meeting the deadline this weekend,” Cllr Doherty said.
Donegal County Council operates services for Camper and Motorhome holidaymakers in Carndonagh, Buncrana, Magheraroarty and Maghery. These locations and the private operators are well mapped out on camping websites and GoVisitDonegal.com
Liam Ward of the Community and Planning Department said the Council is carrying out a check of all other locations to ensure they are in working order.
Mr Ward said the campervan and motorhome service is a growth area that is supported by the council.
He replied: “The Council has also engaged with private sector providers and has met with them on a number of occasions. The Council is anxious to improve the service provision and availability in this area across the County and wishes to work with all interested stakeholders in this regard.”
