A double at Catterick yesterday afternoon took Donegal jockey Martin Harley onto 40 wins in 2018.

Harley was victorious on the 8/11 favourite St Malo and the 4/6 favourite Elgin in back-to-back races.

Harley steered the Philip Hobbs-trained USA five-year-old St Malo to a win in the Racing Careers Day Selling Stakes over 1 mile and six furlongs.

Harley was comfortable over the final furlong to win by a length and a quarter from the 9/2 Cool Macavity.

In the next race, on Alan King’s Elgin, the Trentagh man was celebrating again after a win in the Confined Novice Stakes.

After nudging beyond Saroog, Harley and Elgin had three-quarters of a length to spare.

Later in the evening, again riding for King, Harley was second on Giving Glances (5/1) at Doncaster.

Harley has five mounts this afternoon at Doncaster.
