Listen: Rachel Coyle reflects on All-Ireland final heroics for Downings

Rachel Coyle won’t forget the June Bank Holiday of 2018 in a hurry – after all, she hit 13 points to fire Downings to All-Ireland glory.

That her haul came on the home sod in Downings as her side defeated Cill Chomáin made it all the sweeter.

Coyle hit ten points in normal time and was Downings’ match winner in extra-time in a stunning display.

“It was such a good day,” she reflected.

“Thank God we played well as a team, but it was never easy. We’re just delighted to get a win on the home pitch. It’s such a big event. Today will go down in history.

“I had my head down at the end of full-time. I missed a point and it could have been the winner.

“The start of extra time was going to be the decider. The body goes into fatigue and the head can go down so you need a good start. We kept our cool and relaxed more.”
