Senator MacLochlainn confirms that important meeting regarding Swan Park will take place in Leinster House

Donegal Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has confirmed that an important meeting about the need to source the funds to reconstruct Swan Park in Buncrana will take place at Leinster House next Wednesday 13th June in Leinster House.

The meeting will be attended by senior officials from the Department of Local Government and Fáilte Ireland. Also in attendance will be local Oireachtas members and senior officials from Donegal County Council.
Senator Mac Lochlainn said: “I have sought this meeting for months now and I can confirm that it will proceed next week. It is absolutely outrageous that Swan Park has been lying in ruins for ten months now with no sign of vital funding from central government.
“This is a major community and tourism amenity, not just for the people of Buncrana, but for the Inishowen peninsula. Indeed, our local community have made this clear with a packed public meeting and a public petition signed by over 4,000 people.
“From my discussions with various government Ministers over recent months, the reason that they have given is that funding for the reconstruction of a park does not fit neatly in to any government department’s responsibilities.
“I have repeatedly stated that this is just not acceptable and that Swan Park should be restored just like the roads and bridges across the peninsula that were also destroyed by last years devastating floods.”
“Next weeks meeting is therefore welcome but it must lead to solutions soon on Government funding that can fully restore Swan Park. The people of Buncrana and Inishowen will accept nothing less,” MacLochlainn concluded.
