Two men have been arrested after Gardai in Letterkenny seized more than €40,000 of drugs.

Following a surveillance operation, Gardai yesterday stopped a taxi and seized a large amount of drugs from one of the passengers.

And in a follow-up search, another man was arrested as more drugs and a quantity of cash was seized.

Both men, who are in their 20s, were taken to Letterkenny Garda station where they are being questioned.

Both men are currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 Drug Trafficking Act 1996 at Letterkenny Garda Station.

Drugs seized with an estimated street value of €40,000 include:

· €15,000 Cocaine
· €18,000 Ecstasy Tablets
· €4000 Speed/Amphetamine
· €3000 Cannabis Herb
·

Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan welcomed the latest seizure.

She said “This is a very significant seizure and demonstrates the drugs which are available on our streets.

“I am appealing to members of the public to continue assisting us in our efforts to tackle the sale and supply of drugs. Any information seized will be treated with the utmost confidence.”
