Inishowen teenager Jamie Doherty will be laid to rest this morning.

Last Friday evening, the 14-year-old from Moville died when the car he was driving crashed near his grandparents’ home in Redcastle.

A second year student at Moville Community School, Jamie’s tragic death left what local Councillor Martin Farren described as ‘an eerie feeling’ in the town.

“People cannot get over that something like this has happened,” he said.

School Principal, Anthony Doogan, added: “We are deeply saddened by this event. Our sympathy and thoughts are with the Doherty and Havlin families and friends.

“Jamie was a 2nd year student and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. We have been in contact with his parents and they have requested that we all understand their need for privacy at this difficult time.”

Jamie’s Funeral Mass takes place this morning in St Columba’s Church, Ballinacrea followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.
