Thousands expected in Donegal Town to welcome home Ulster champions

Thousands are expected on the streets of Donegal Town tonight to greet Donegal’s Ulster-winning heroes.

After the 12-point win over Fermanagh in Clones, Declan Bonner’s victorious team are making their triumphant way back to Donegal.

A 2-18 to 0-12 victory sees the Anglo Celtic Cup return to The Hills for a ninth time – and the fourth time in the last eight years.

Scenes at the final whistle today were every bit as boisterous as in previous years as Donegal’s delirious supporters poured onto the surface to toast the win, after having lost two finals in the last three years.

The Donegal team is due to back in Pettigo any time now around 8.30pm. It had been expected that the team would stop off in Ballyshannon but those plans have now been shelved.

County Board officials estimate that the Ulster champions will be back at The Diamond in Donegal Town for around 10pm.
