Donegal councillor slams ‘toadying’ up to Arlene Foster at GAA game

Donegal County Councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig has slammed other politicians and others for “toadying up” to DUP leader Arlene Foster.

Ms Foster attended the Ulster Final between Donegal and Fermanagh at Clones yesterday.

She could be seen in the company of Donegal Minister Joe McHugh.

The West Donegal-based councillor said he wanted to congratulate Donegal on winning the Ulster championship.

However he said we shouldn’t get carried away with the fact that among the spectators standing for Ireland’s national anthem was leader of the DUP, Arlene Foster.

Nor should we allow right wing nationalist politicians claim this as some form of victory that they have brought about through their wisdom and leadership.

He slammed “In spite of Arlene Forster’s recent charm offensive which includes meeting the GAA, her party remains one of the most reactionary, right-wing groupings in Western Europe. When Mrs Forster’s party ceases to be, homophobic, pro-imperialist, anti-marriage equality, isolationist, neoliberal, frith-gaeilge and anti-Irish then maybe we could view her visit yesterday to Clones as a gesture of goodwill rather than cynical politicking.

“Those toadying politicians frantically queuing up yesterday to applaud Mrs Foster might do well to reflect on what they are endorsing before they belittle themselves any further.”
