A series of gorse fires have taken hold of areas close to Glenveagh National Park today.
There are fears that at least two of these fires were started maliciously as they took hold of areas of gorse only a kilometre apart.
One broke out on the R255 Glenveagh-Termon road, around 2km, from the Glenveagh Inn.
Another burst into flames on what is known as ‘the green road’, which links the R255 road to the N56, Termon-Creeslough road.
The fires started at 11am this morning and the fire service was notified immediately.
Two other fires have been sighted on the Churchill Road.
There are serious concerns locally as they are in close proximity to Glenveagh National Park.
