Dear Editor,
I have just returned from the Inishowen Peninsula where I attended the Irish Open. Never before had I ventured so far up the island of Ireland, but I am glad that I did.
The welcome we received was outstanding, warm, friendly and at all times helpful. The people of Ballyliffin and members of that beautiful golf course, plus the hundreds of volunteers who gave a week of their summer to make it all run so smoothly should be very proud of their efforts.
From free car parking, concessions for over sixties, inexpensive taxis etc it was a privilege to be in a part of Ireland where the rip off apathy which blight event across the entertainment and sports spectrum was not the norm. In fact, it was a perfect event to be attending.
Donegal has so much to offer to the golf tourist now that Ballyliffin has been added to the list of great golf courses of Ireland ie Waterville, Druids-glen, Portstewart, Adair Manor etc.
Get ready for an invasion of people who will like myself be queuing up to travel to and hopefully one day be able to say “I played Ballyliffin golf course.”
Thank you Donegal for a great golf tournament venue, see you again soon.
