Listen: Keith Cowan says resilient Finn Harps can make top flight return

Keith Cowan believes that Finn Harps’ resilience can help keep them in contention for a return to the Premier Division.

Back-to-back away wins at Cabinteely and Drogheda United have Harps in one of the promotion play-off berths as they now look forward to a pair of home games, against Longford Town and Shelbourne.

“The two away wins are invaluable and give the side of a bit of confidence,” Cowan said.

“We have a target, rather than defending a lead. We see what we have to do.

“There was a great feeling walking off the pitch in Drogheda after John put the ball in the net. We did dig in. We lost two of our midfielders early in the game. To lose those was a big blow, but the younger guys stepped in and it was excellent.”

Relegated from the top flight last season, Cowan and Harps are itching to make an instant return.

The defender said:  “We’re challenging for a promotion spot. That’s why we make sacrifices for training and from our family and social life. We’re in the running and involved in the business end of the season.”
