The residents of a housing estate in Killea near the Donegal/Derry border were on alert last night after an attempted burglary.

A man was seen attempting to break into a home with a metal bar in Ashlea Grove shortly after 2am on Saturday night/Sunday morning, according to local reports.

When disturbed by a neighbour, the man ran and took off in a black BMW car. It is believed that two people were involved in the attempted break-in.

Residents were unable to get a car registration number as the perpetrators left the car boot open to hide their plates.

The local community alert group have warned people to be on the lookout for the suspect car and to report any sightings to Gardai.
