More than €125,000 in grants to Donegal projects has been announced by local Minister Joe McHugh.

The funding is going to 12 Fisheries Local Action Groups and is part of Government supports to support the seafood sector.

Among those awarded funding are the Downings Promenade with funding of €20,000 and Bia Mara an Atlantaigh Fhíain Teoranta in Keadue with funding of €85,000 for blast freezing equipment.

With matching funding from recipients, the total investment in the groups comes to €212,000.

Today’s announcement follows more than €300,000 of funding to 31 other projects in the county.

“I am delighted with this latest round of funding which is important for the regeneration and advancement of our coastal communities,” said Minister McHugh.

“I want to thank cabinet colleague and Minister for the Marine Michael Creed for this essential support for grassroots project along Donegal’s coastal communities.

“Funding for a number of coastal festivals is also included which helps drive out tourism trade.

“The FLAGS initiative is a very clever use of resources to get the maximum benefit for our coastal communities in Donegal and I want to congratulate all groups which received funding today.”

Minister McHugh urged other organisations, companies and groups to apply for the next round of funding.

Details on the FLAG scheme and on how to apply can be found at: www.bim.ie/schemes/<http://www.bim.ie/schemes/>.
