Roscommon boss McStay accepts 12-week ban after linesman incident

The Roscommon manager, Kevin McStay, has accepted a three-month suspension proposed by the Central Competitions Controls Committee arising out of an incident during Saturday’s game against Donegal.

McStay confronted linesman Niall Cullen as they left the field at half-time in Dr Hyde Park.

Footage showed McStay throw a ball, which hit Cullen on the head.

McStay apologised to the linesman at half-time, but referee Ciaran Branagan told the Roscommon boss to sit in the stand for the second half of the game.

McStay was irate at a failure to award Diarmuid Murtagh a free with the final play of the first half, having been incensed that Michael Murphy hadn’t been penalised for what he felt was a foul on Brian Stack earlier in the game.

The CCCC proposed a 12-week suspension for minor physical interference and McStay has taken the punishment on the chin.
